Facebook Click To Messenger ("CTM") ads are a highly effective ad unit. CTM ads are used to engage people in personalized conversations where they can be informed and delighted.
User experience
Display
CTM ads are available with a number of placements, including Facebook feeds, video feeds, stories, search results, Instagram feed and stories, and more. The ads look like other Facebook ads:
Welcome Message
When a CTM Call To Action ("CTA") is clicked the user is taken to a part of the CTM ad called a Welcome Message (sometimes called a custom template, page welcome message). Note that as the Welcome Message is part of the Facebook Ad, it is served to the user directly by Facebook and there is no notification nor signaling of any kind done to Amplify.ai at this stage. This portion of the ad is presented to the user as if the page has privately messaged them. It may contain text, images, or even video along with Quick Reply buttons or regular Buttons (some markets may have Facebook restrictions on which graphical elements can be used).
The top part will contain the page branding while the bottom part will contain the actual welcome message configured in Facebook Ad Manager:
Engage with Welcome Message
One you engage with the Welcome Message, Facebook will signal to Amplfy.ai that someone has engaged with a particular CTM ad's welcome message and will allow Amplify.ai to respond to the user.
Configuration with Facebook Ad Manager
Campaign
- Campaign setup should use the "Messages" consideration
AdSet
- Ad Type of "Click to Message"
- Messaging Apps destination of "Messenger"
- Facebook page should be selected appropriately
Ad
- Welcome Message. In the ad configuration there is a section called "Messenger Template" or "Messenger Setup", depending on which version of ad manager you have access to. Select "Use Existing" in the first drop-down list and then select the Amplify.ai configured welcome message in the second drop-down list
- "URL Parameters" must be set to "ref=AMPLIFYAI_WILL_PROVIDE_THIS". Note there is no click out on the ad and as such these URL parameters are used for signaling from Facebook's ad servers to Amplify.ai's platform.
Previews
To preview a Facebook CTM ad one must use the "Share a Link" feature available in the "Previews and Sharing options button". This can be done only when the ad is published - though it need not be active.
- Click the "Previews and Sharing options button" button (it's a square with an arrow pointing diagonally up and to the right).
2.Select the "Share a Link" option
3.You will see an overlay "Share This Ad". Click the "Copy" button:
4.This preview link can be emailed or shared in any way. If the ad creative is modified in any way this preview link may expire or become outdated and you will have to publish and follow the procedure above to get an updated link.
5. When you visit the preview link you will see a version of the ad creative and you will be asked to confirm that you wish to preview the ad. You must click the "Show Ad" button to properly preview the ad. The image on this page is not a full preview of the ad, it is a preview of the ad display only.
6. Once you click "Show Ad" you will be directed to your Facebook feed. The ad itself will typically show up as the second item in your feed, simply scroll down a bit to view it. You may now interact with the ad as if it were live. The ad CTA will trigger the ad Welcome Message and if the Amplify.ai user flow is already built and connected to your Facebook page then you will see the Messenger user experience as well.
